Neustar, Inc. has developed the Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC) to support the implementation of Local Number Portability (LNP). LNP is the ability of a phone service customer in North America to retain their local phone number and access to advanced calling features when they switch their local phone service to another local service provider. LNP helps ensure successful local telephone competition, since without LNP, subscribers might be unwilling to switch service providers.
